The Attorneys - "Stereocracy" (Independent, 2007) The Attorneys - "On A Whim"
|
New York's The Attorneys aim to show how fresh musical and lyrical ideas can change the landscape of music world. To wit, their overt similarities to Queen and The Police blend aptly with their modern influences, including Weezer and The Strokes on Stereocracy. "On A Whim," the album's lead single, channels Freddie Mercury so deftly that it's difficult to believe lead singer / bassist Ryan George's song isn't some long-lost Queen gem unearthed for a new generation. From there the album turns into an all-out romp, with ear-catching potential singles like "Open Up" and "Stay" (which earned thousands of MySpace downloads and was a finalist in a competition for a spot on the John Tucker Must Die soundtrack) keeping the pace of this album on breakneck speed.
Stereocracy is a classic in the making, but the band's going to have to find a way to push the album into the mainstream, something which may prove difficult considering the album's only available as an online download purchase through the likes of Napster and I-Tunes or as an online purchase at www.cdbaby.com. Still, I dare you to give "On A Whim," "Stay" and the darkly and violently attractive "Poppies" a listen and tell me this band doesn?t deserve a shot at radio airplay. When a band crafts an album this addictively fun, letting it pass unheralded is a crime, particularly when bands as lousy as Hinder continue to build a radio audience. |
