Voices in Conflict: The Charlotte Martin Interview
Charlotte Martin grew up in Illinois, and attended Eastern Illinois University, where she was trained in the intricate nature of operatic music. But when two close friends committed suicide, Martin chose to forego graduate school, favoring a move to LA to pursue her music career. Since then she's experienced the absurdity of working nine months on an album only to have it shelved due to label disputes. She's recorded that album's follow-up, only to be constantly compared to the likes of Kate Bush and Tori Amos. Now, with the pending release of her latest studio effort Stromata, Charlotte took the time to speak with In My Headphones' Jonathan Sanders to discuss the future of her music, the struggles she's faced in trying to avoid genre-labeling, and how sometimes she wishes people would simply ask more questions.
